Founded in 1989 by Sri M. M. Gupta, Chairman Gupta Group (Govt. of India Recognized Export House ) Eluru, to promote Literature, Science, Arts, other intellectual pursuits and Humanitarian services and to honour distinguished persons or Institutions in these fields. The recipients, selected by a panel of advisers of Gupta Award are given a cash award by Rs. 100000 and a Citation. In 1994, the literary award was instituted by his father Sri. M. Krishna Murthy as Sri Krishna Murthy Sahitya puraskaram to promote Telugu literature. Under this award, cash of Rs.25000 and citation are presented. The motive in establishing the foundation is to locate persons with intrinsic worth and encourage them in their respective fields of activity.

Sri Gupta is one of the leading exporters of a variety of products which include Human Hair, Sandal Wood, Handicrafts and Cotton Swabs, Textiles. The Government of India has recognised the Gupta Group as an “Export House” and has been confering Sri Gupta with the “Best Exporter Award” continuously for the past Twenty years. He has also been receiving the State Award for Exports from the Government of Andhra Pradesh. He also received the “Kamal Patra” Award from Indian Jaycees in recognition of his contribution of our contry’s exports. With this extremely successful ongoing business career on one hand Sri Gupta thought it fit to establish the Gupta Foundation through which he could honour stalwarts in various field.
